I took part in the Ronde von Calderdale today. I’ve spent the last 2 years chasing riders round and supporting, so felt this year I’d see what the fuss was about. It was fab. The weather was glorious, so much so that I wish I’d spent more time preparing my legs than the bike. Full length thermal tights were not required.
I rode with a Richard, who’s pace was perfect. If I topped a hill first I got a breather, which encouraged me to make a bit more effort. The route was incredible; if there were cobble, we went up them. Sections which you would only dream of putting in a single ride were shunted together nose to tail.
It felt a bit of a cop out only riding the short route. Friends I knew returning from the long ride had shaking hands, cramps, inability to speak and general symptoms of delirium.
Except @waterrat77, but she’s not really human.
