Ok, let’s just get this out of the way to start with. Technically I’ve failed. Yup, I did not ride a bike yesterday. I did however spend around 10 hours on a train in order to go to the London Bespoked Handmade Bike Show.

Now I’d hatched a plan with a man. That man being the illustrator Matthew Burton, we would meet at the show then challenge one and other on the roller racing, winner buying the cake. Didn’t quite work out like that, no roller racing. So there was I in the beautiful new London Velodrome, surrounded by the most beautiful bikes you’ve ever seen, yet didn’t actually manage to ride one! Then I came up with a new plan, my train home was due to arrive back to The Bridge at around 11.20, thus giving me the chance to hop onto a bike before midnight, scoot up and down like a crazy and then fall over. Alas no, random delayed train, resulting in missing the last connection home, getting any train close and then getting a costly cab back from Halifax some time around 1.30am. FAIL….rhymes with RAIL….hmmmm.

Anyway, Saturday was a new day, the sun was shining, we’re doing an event tomorrow which required a little tinkering to the bikes. We popped over to visit our friend Alan ‘Crossjunkie’ Dorrington, who, if you’ll recall was about to do this challenge but suffered a broken neck and now is spending 12 weeks in a cone of shame. My partner Ali had been worried as the boys in her club have been deliberating over which tyres to use for the event as it’s 30% off road. Alan kindly leant her a pair of ‘pave’ spring classics tubulars to go on a pair of my wheels so that she’d be ok. A swap of wheels, tyres, tubulars, fresh handlebar tape for  Ali, swapping all the brake blocks to ones for carbon rims and we’re all good to go. I took my bike with it’s chunky tyres out for a quick test spin round Hardcastle Craggs.  Just a case of deciding what to wear…… photo-34photo-35Screen Shot 2014-04-12 at 21.34.34Screen Shot 2014-04-12 at 21.33.48Screen Shot 2014-04-12 at 21.34.04
