Into the valley (Day 6)

It’s a quite surreal to think that way less than 100 days the world’s greatest bike race will be hurtling through our fair valley, a once in a lifetime opportunity to see cycling’s blue ribband event up close and personal.

Stage 2 of the Tour de France starts at York taking in Harrogate, Keighley, Oxenhope, Hebden Bridge, Cragg Vale and Ripponden before heading over to Holmfirth and onto Sheffield – providing numerous vantage points to witness the huge (and at times crazy and chaotic) spectacle that is ‘Le Grande Boucle”

I driving wind and occasional rain I rode a relatively sedate, large loop out to Littleborough, up the old Blackstone Edge road (which I’d not ridden before) before joining the Tour route down into Ripponden. Whilst I kept feathering the brakes on my long descent into the valley, buffeted by the crosswind, I couldn’t help think that the pro’s won’t be as cautious come the 6th of July!
