Just 5 days to go until the start of this year’s 30 days of biking in the South Pennines. I have the following thoughts;

  • I am a novice. Last time I rode a bike I fell off it into a canal. Canals are very silty – its much harder to get out than get in I have found.
  • I am terrified of this commitment – 30 days is a long time to commit myself to any form of exercise in sun, rain wind or snow. I don’t like exercise.
  • Its very hilly round here.

These are my inner fears, but the spirit of all this is to get new people like me into cycling, to get over such inconveniences as hills and to show that even a middle aged, unfit newbie with no sense of balance and an aversion to breaking into a sweat can achieve something. Perhaps. We shall see.
