Cyclocross, my first love, is skills intensive. No matter how long you have been riding, a quick brushing up on the basics always pays dividends. It also brings back the fun, playing around element. Cue a half hour around the playing fields close to work – up the steep banking, bike on shoulder and back down again, mountain bike style. Practice starts, dismounting at speed and more importantly remounting again without loss of speed. Good for fitness and good for the soul.
