Neil’s Day 12 – Hurstwood

So it’s the Easter holidays and the kids are home from school so it was time to have a family bike ride, however with twin 7-year-olds and a 13-year-old the challenge was to find somewhere suitable for all. Now Route 66 would’ve been the easy choice as we can join it within half a mile of home, however I wondered if there was anything else out there.

A quick message to my fellow bloggers gave me the confidence to try out the purpose built trails at Hurstwood Reservoir near Burnley. This blue graded trail didn’t disappoint, providing a good mix of features for us all to have a thoroughly fun time. I think my love of cycling is starting to rub off. It was very rewarding to see my girls build up the confidence to tackle some of the steeper sections, and even after a couple of crashes they weren’t deterred. My son blasted round and round, up and down, having way too much fun to think about how far he had ridden. The weather was kind too with blue skies to match the blue trails! We all came back saying how much we’d love to go again.
