So after a week on holiday and quite a challenging ride the night before, today I needed to pop into my local bike shop. Now I spend a lot of time in my local bike shop … I’ve only been cycling seriously since last summer so I’m always finding that I need new gear as the seasons change, plus my old mtb (Shirley!) has gradually been replaced part by part as things have worn out or broken.

My local shop is Cyclegear in Halifax. These guys really look after you, and they’re good value for money too. You get proper customer service, the kind you used to get when businesses took a longer term view of life. I bought my first mtb from them 10-years ago not long after moving to the area and I’ll be going back for many more to come I’m sure!

Today’s purchase? A roadie helmet – essential as I’ve now joined the lycra-clad brigade!
