I’d been looking forward to this event of ages, it’s just my kind of ride, brutally hilly and almost ridiculous. 70 miles with 10’000′ of climbing in it. Most of the climbs are cobbled too. They include some of the legendary climbs of the area like Lee Lane, often known as Shibden Wall, almost a kilometer of uphill cobbles. Beautiful yet bonkers.
The ride is a sportive challenge ride, it raises money for the Kirklees Cycling Academy. Their aim is to get kids on bikes, get them riding and learning to race. All voluntary. Hat’s off to them, they’re doing a great job.
I met up with the boys from Alba Rosa Cycling Club for the last few cobbled sections. Really nice bunch of lads. I’ll go ride with them again. I even got a South Pennines suntan…..ok, so it washed off but hey!
